Santa Maria Novella
Behold Santa Maria Novella, Ireland’s first Italian apothecary, in Dublin’s Westbury Mall. Luxury perfume at its best.
Launching in Ireland for the first time, Ireland’s newest apothecary, Santa Maria Novella has opened its doors in the heart of our Creative Quarter in the Westbury Mall, Clarendon Street.
Introducing the store to the Irish market are Marija Aslimoska, the classically French-trained perfumer and Brendan Coyle, who brought the immensely successful Parfumarija, the first independent niche perfumery to Ireland. At the core of the product range is an abundant range of skin care products, taking inspiration from the decades of history bestowed within the apothecary. Founded in 1221 by the Dominican friars, the apothecary was originally established for making herbal remedies. Though word of their renowned remedies had spread world-wide, and with patrons including Catherine de’ Medici, it wasn’t until 400 years later in 1612, that Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella opened its doors to the public and still operates today.
Santa Maria Novella is regarded for their fragrant colognes for both men and women, soothing scented waters, luxurious soaps, calming hair care creams and a variety of home scents and candles. It also encompasses a wide selection of men’s grooming products with beautiful shaving tools and specialised beard grooming combs & brushes as well as scented shampoos and conditioners, bathing oils and creams, natural dental care products, baby care powders and even delicate shampoos for cats and dogs. To celebrate the festive season, Santa Maria Novella will also offer a variety of bespoke hampers for an exclusive time period.
Today, Santa Maria Novella still has products that date back hundred of years at its core. Steeped in rich history, they continue to craft their incredibly beautiful wrapped potions by hand and their formulas and production methods remain unchanged. Raw materials of the highest quality are still used and the apothecary fathers’ artisanal procedures are still followed, yet the company avails itself of modern technology and state of the art equipment.
A limited collection of the fine products are exclusively available in Marija’s boutique perfumery in the Westbury Mall, Parfumarija.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a scent is worth a thousand pictures, says perfumer Marija Aslimoska.
Located close to the Chiesa di Santa Maria Novella in Florence, Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella was founded in 1221 by the Dominican friars and it was originally established for making herbal remedies.
Patrons included Catherine de’ Medici who brought her ‘Acqua della Regina’ citrus-based cologne water of Calabrian bergamot to the French court. Regarded as the world’s first celebrity fragrance, today its modern fanbase includes Princess Caroline of Monaco, actress Catherine Zeta Jones and Hillary Clinton.
The Dublin store sells colognes, soaps, haircare creams and a variety of home scents and candles.
Whilst there, be sure to check out Parfumarija next door.
