Bewley’s collaborates with Cafe Femenino

Bewley’s announces special partnership with Café Femenino to introduce a new Peruvian coffee to Irish consumers that supports and empowers women farmers and their communities.

These days, we’re all trying to do that little bit more to better support our planet and the people in it, and that includes making more sustainable, ethical choices when shopping for everyday essentials and luxuries. Bewley’s, in an effort to further improve its own practices, is striving to make that step a little easier for coffee lovers across Ireland with its new coffee range, created in partnership with Café Femenino.

Café Femenino is a charity partnership with women coffee farmers who’ve challenged the male-dominated coffee farming industry in South America. They are community-focused and work to ensure the quality coffee they produce creates good in their communities by training, developing, and investing in the local land, communities, and resources. Women in remote and rural coffee communities all over the world face a host of challenges that keep them trapped in poverty. Many of these isolated women live in male-dominated societies and have very little financial control or decision-making power. Café Femenino is a women-led speciality coffee brand that provides direct compensation, leadership opportunities and ownership rights to women coffee farmers. The coffee is grown exclusively on farms owned and operated by women, who are paid directly for the coffee they produce.

Looking to provide consumers across Ireland with delicious, high-quality Fairtrade coffee and the opportunity to choose a coffee that empowers women, Bewley’s have partnered with Café Femenino to develop a single origin speciality grade organic coffee from Peru that will invest in the future of an ethical supply chain and support women farmers and their communities. For every pack of coffee purchased, Bewley’s will give 50c directly to the Café Femenino co-operative to help provide bespoke training and education programmes.

We are delighted to partner with the Café Femenino community,” says Catherine Casserly, Marketing Director at Bewley’s. “We had the privilege of spending time with them in Peru towards the end of last year, and they welcomed us into their communities and homes. We promised them that we would not only support them financially by buying their coffee and supporting their development initiatives, but that we would also tell their remarkable stories of female empowerment to the Irish people.

Bewley’s Café Femenino Single Origin Peru Ground Coffee, €8.95, is available in Avoca stores nationwide; Bewley’s Café, Grafton Street; and online at bewleys.com.
