To celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge, we’re running Irish language events between 1-17th March. We’d love for you to join us. The events are open to all.

Cupán agus Comhrá, Tuesdays 5th and 12th March 2024

Join us for a cuppa and a chat as Gaeilge at 11am on Tuesday 5th and Tuesday 12th March outside our main building. Our staff member Niamh Ní Riain will be on hand to welcome you and answer any questions you may have about the National Library.  Whether you  have the cúpla focal, or are a fluent speaker, or just want to practice listening to the language, you’re very welcome to join us! No booking is required.

National Library of Ireland Welcome Tour

On Thursday 7th and Thursday 14th March at 11am, Niamh Ní Riain will deliver our Irish Language Welcome Tour. This 30 minute tour introduces visitors to the services, history, and architecture, of the National Library of Ireland. Not to be missed! No booking is required, simply come to the main hall of the main Library building, 7/8 Kildare Street. For group booking enquiries, please contact learning@nli.ie.

Oireachtas na Gaeilge papers, 1939-1994, in the National Library

Online talk, Tuesday 12th March 11am. Máire Ní Chonalláin, Assistant Keeper, will talk in Irish about the Oireachtas na Gaeilge papers, 1939-1994, in the National Library. A collection of administrative records, competition entries, and adjudicators’ reports relating to An tOireachtas, or Oireachtas na Gaeilge, as it is also known – the National Festival of Irish Language and Culture held yearly from 1897 until the present.

Ciorcal Comhrá

We will also be holding the Ciorcal Comhrá each Friday from 10.30am-11am on the benches outside the Library. This will be open to the public as always on 1st, 8th, and 15th March. No booking is required.
