As part of The New Theatre New Writing Week, we are delighted to present a staged reading of Magical Girls by Rachel Thornton.
In a bubble-gum, comic-book Dublin, twenty-something magical girl Maggie go Bragh has inherited her late mother Erin’s destiny of defending Ireland from dark magical forces—and she’s absolutely terrible at it. When a dire prophecy threatens everything she loves, Maggie and her wisecracking cat Jinx must uncover Erin’s past through the memories of her old foes. As mother and daughter’s stories intertwine, Magical Girls becomes a technicolour odyssey of magic, mayhem, and Irish womanhood—exploring the messy, hilarious journey of learning how to become your own hero.
Presented as a rehearsed reading on February 3rd 2026 at 7pm. Free but ticketed.
