Drawing the Collection takes place monthly in front of the artworks in the Galleries. These sessions offer an opportunity to explore artworks, artists, media, and styles through drawing, under the guidance of a tutor.

This month, join artist Fergus Byrne for a hands-on drawing workshop exploring the masterpieces in Room 25 using graphite. This session focuses on light and shadow, with particular attention to chiaroscuro as seen in the Baroque Master paintings. Fergus will introduce distinctive drawing techniques, offering a fresh and engaging way to interpret these works. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with these methods while drawing directly in front of the paintings. All materials are provided. The workshop includes a short introductory discussion followed by plenty of time to draw from the collection.

All drawing materials will be provided. Participants are also welcome to bring their own dry drawing materials if they wish.

  • The meeting point is the Shaw Room.
  • Easiest access is via the Merrion Square entrance to the Gallery but ask any member of staff for directions.
