The Gate Theatre Dublin presents Dancing at Lughnasa, by Brian Friel. With previews from Friday 12 July, must end Sunday 21 September 2024.

Dancing at Lughnasa centres on the Mundy sisters in Donegal as the constitution of Ireland is being conceived and the hopes of summer and the possibility of love feel like they are in the grasp of these extraordinary, ordinary women.

Dancing at Lughnasa is a play about female resilience and the sacrifices we choose, and are forced, to make. Although inevitably tragic, it celebrates the truth and beauty of these women and reminds us of how far away freedom is for so many.
