After years of building a loyal following across Scotland, Callum Beattie has finally found creative freedom with Indi, his third album and first made entirely on his own terms. Frustrated by record label pressure to fit a commercial mould, Beattie struggled with his mental health and creative identity before being dropped by his label after 2023’s Vandals. Rather than a setback, it became a turning point, allowing him to create an album that reflects his real voice, influences and experiences.
Deeply personal and honest, Indi explores themes of love, insecurity, childhood trauma and self-discovery. Drawing inspiration from his working-class upbringing, difficult family experiences and years of perseverance as a songwriter, the album captures Beattie’s journey from adversity to confidence. He describes it as the album he always wanted to make: independent, authentic and a true reflection of who he is as an artist today.
