The Boar’s Head is a traditional, family-owned pub that has been a Capel Street gem for the past 20 years. Much has changed during this time but the affectionate place The Boar’s Head holds in the hearts of its regulars remains the same.
The Boar’s Head is located at 149 Capel Street. It is described by its regulars as serving the best pint of Guinness and the best bowl of Irish stew in the city but don’t take our word for it try it for yourself!

History
Proud proprietor Hugh, was residing in New York in 1994, when he heard his Uncle had put the pub up for sale. Hugh returned to Dublin and soon shared the good news that he had bought the family business back, after the public auction. 20 years later and the compact yet surprisingly spacious pub on the corner is thriving. Over the years Hugh has seen and welcomed a lot of change. “Slatterys, Louis Copeland, AJ Furniture…there’s a lot of history in these businesses, and they’ll hopefully always be here, but we like to see new places open up and we like to support them as much as we can”. He’s a big fan of having busy restaurants like Brasserie 7 and Ristorante Romano just across the street. They all share the adjacent LUAS line that brings a lot of shoppers, students and tourists to the street, while Capel Buildings on the same street brings a lot of corporate customers. Regulars retain their favourite seats at the Boar’s Head, and a function room provides for parties and the all important food platters during match time. It’s one of those rare institutions that manages to cater to every customer, yet retains a unique character; A bit like Capel Street itself.
