First Ever Monopoly Dublin Board Launched
Written by Sam Mahon
A game loved by many that can often divide friends and families, lead to tears of joy and pain, Hasbro has unveiled the new MONOPOLY: DUBLIN EDITION member to the Monopoly family.
Following the success of other versions like MONOPOLY: CAPE TOWN EDITION and MONOPOLY: MANCHESTER EDITION, the world-renowned board game has released a highly anticipated Dublin adaptation including some of the city’s most well-known landmarks, tourist hot spots and even a number of our very own DublinTown businesses!
Yes, our wishes have finally been granted as our great city gets international recognition in the form of this evergreen board game. The Monopoly world has been adapted perfectly to our historic city as its multi-coloured streets are divided between many famous landmarks such as the Phoenix Park, the Molly Malone Statue which neighbours one of our DublinTown Information Kiosks, the Ha’Penny Bridge, and the most expensive slot to buy on the board, the GPO.
This board also features two jails, the standard Monopoly jail and the famous Kilmainham Gaol just two spaces down from the standard jail, the placement of the jails appears to have the potential to turn the festive season sour if any sore losers are involved. Freshly Chopped is also the only food business to make it on the board!
The Community and Chance cards have also been adapted to the new environment of Dublin with the most sought-after card sending its recipient on a shopping spree in Arnotts. Located just across from DublinTown headquarters on Abbey Street Middle, Arnotts is one of Ireland’s leading department stores that is simply dripping in Irish culture, a fitting way to celebrate 175 years in business for Arnotts, while also acknowledging the fine work they have done for Dublin as a city.
From the South side of the River Liffey, iconic jewellers Weir & Sons are added to the Monopoly street. Their pristine facade and selection of flags can be seen on the board, where the Irish family-run store is a go-to for jewellery and watch lovers, fashionistas, business people and tourists alike, as well as being renowned for their vintage selection and fine homeware. Just like in real life, on the neighbouring corner to Weirs is Brown Thomas, Dublin’s luxury department store – Monopoly wouldn’t be the same without them!
Available in stores (including Arnotts) now at €34.99.
