Dublin Sci-Fi Film Festival April 26 – 29
Dublin Sci-Fi Film Festival returns for a second time to Smithfield Square. The Generator Hostel and Lighthouse Cinema are the venues for the event running from Thursday 26th April – Sunday 29th April 2018. Dublin Sci-Fi Film Festival is a genre-specific film festival focusing the lens on Science-Fiction and Fantastic Film. The festival is all about the genre of Sci Fi and has numerous screenings of new features, documentaries and short films, along with classic science fiction and fantastic features from the vaults. Features like The Fly (1958) Planet of the Apes (1968) The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953) & sci fi shorts.

On Raftery’s Hill at the Abbey Theatre (April 27 – May 8)
There is something rotten on Raftery’s hill. This play directed by Caitríona McLaughlin will take a new resonance on Marina Carr’s On Raftery’s Hill. The play is set in a close-knit farming community which sees a family being pushed to their limits. Red Raftery will be played by Lorcan Cranitch where he will be joined by Peter Coonan, Maeve Fitzgerald, Kwaku Fortune, Peter Gowen, Marie Mullan and Zara Devlin. Dublin’s best animal-friendly, family event is back in in Smithfield Square on Sunday 29th April. Pets in the City returns to Smithfield Square on Sunday 29th April from 11.30am to 4.30pm. This free family event provides animal lovers and their pets with the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of activities, stalls and live entertainment.
There will be plenty of entertainment for the animals too with our four-legged friends being invited to take part in the DSPCA King of Paws Dog Agility Workshops and Scruffs Dog Show.

Dublin Castle has brought Coming Home: Art and the Great Hunger to Ireland for the first time (until June 30)
This exhibition is the world’s largest collection of Famine-related art. Being shown for the first time in Ireland, Coming Home: Art and the Great Hunger is originally from Ireland’s Great Hunger Museum at Quinnipiac University, Connecticut. The exhibition shows the drastic effects of the famine which caused the death of 2 million people followed by a further 2 million emigrations. This exhibition is Free and open 10am – 5pm in Coach House Gallery on Dame St.
