Dublin City Council Bram Stoker Festival presents: Vampyr with reimagined live score.

Succumb to the shadowy world of Vampyr, Carl Theodor Dreyer’s 1932 gothic masterpiece, at this once-off screening with a new, live, reimagined score. Deep underground at Light House Cinema, this resurrection of a creepy Gothic classic promises an unforgettable twisting of horror cinema and live music.

Juno Cheetal (electronics) and Eimear Reidy (cello) conjure an immersive soundscape featuring theremin, autoharp, percussion, field recordings, shimmering strings, vocal harmonies and icy electronics with prerecorded choir sections. Their reimagined score breathes new dread into Dreyer’s dreamlike classic, heightening its surreal visuals and shadowy suspense with a sonic palette veering between fragile and ferocious.

One of the most influential gothic horror films ever made, Vampyr is exquisitely crafted and profoundly otherworldly. Dreyer’s exquisite camerawork, marked by lingering slow fades and shifting shadows, builds tension through disorientation, blurring the thin line between dream and nightmare.

Loosely based on Carmilla by Victorian Gothic writer Sheridan Le Fanu (a mentor to Bram Stoker and a fellow Dubliner), the film draws from the same dark well of cursed inspiration that gave rise to Dracula.

Step into an unnerving audio-visual experience where this ghostly tale of terror is reborn.
