In honour of St Brigid’s Day, discover the lives and legacies of women who have blazed a trail in Ireland and abroad with our dedicated Rebels and Revolutionaries Women’s History Tour.
The Rebels and Revolutionaries Women’s History Tour focuses on the trailblazing women. The ones who broke out of societal shackles to make an impact around the world. Today we are thankfully very familiar with some of these women. The likes of Mary Robinson, Ireland’s first female president, and Countess Markievicz, an instrumental member of the 1916 Easter Rising, are well known figures. But many have been largely lost to history, despite their impressive achievements. The Women’s History tour draws attention to those left out of the history books, the ones that have been hidden for many years, and how it is only in modern times that we have been revisiting, rediscovering and revealing these crucial pieces of the puzzle. It is the goal of feminist or women’s historians to bring untold women’s stories to light and challenge the historical representation of women, and it is our goal at EPIC to pass that along to our visitors.
This tour will run across the St Brigid’s Day weekend at the end of January, running into the February bank holiday, a token to one of the most notable trailblazing Irish women, and our only female patron saint.
