Most people are asleep when “middle night” begins, but in the hours approaching midnight, Australian singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Hayden Calnin would slip into his coastal studio and create. He often recorded long after the world had gone to sleep, absorbing the energy of the evening. The seven-song EP named after these late-night sessions, Middle Night [due 21 November 2025 via Nettwerk], captures those quiet hours when – as Hayden explains – “strange happenings and deeper thoughts often happen”.
“Making music is the best way for me to put my feelings and experiences out there,” he says. “I’m not a great talker, so I wanted my songwriting to be more personal. This project seemed like the right avenue for me to really get everything out. It’s a very honest body of work.”
On Middle Night, he opens up like never before – and over a patchwork of indie, folk, and alternative soundscapes he delivers the most candid body of work of his career.
