Family Day
Family Day Festival returns to Wolfe Tone Square on Sunday 15 May, from 11am to 5pm, for a fun-filled day of family entertainment in the heart of Dublin city.
Now in its sixth year, Family Day Festival, run by One Family – Ireland’s organisation for people parenting alone, sharing parenting and separating – takes place each year on the UN International Day of Families.
This free festival celebrates the diversity of Irish families today with a jam-packed programme of activities including the creation of Ireland’s Biggest Family Tree. Children will be encouraged to take pride in their family, whatever form it may take, by drawing their family portrait on a leaf template, available here. These leaves will be combined and displayed to create Ireland's Biggest Family Tree.
On the stage, magician Brian Daly will add a touch of magic with his blend of tricks and comedy, while elsewhere children can enjoy games, storytelling, workshops and lots more. And finally, look out for the appearance of a moving colourful caterpillar that promises interactive fun for the kids. Visit www.familyday.ie for more info.
"We created Family Day a decade ago to help raise awareness of how family diversity is a positive thing for society", says One Family CEO, Karen Kiernan. "We still have a lot of work to do as our Constitution does not yet acknowledge this reality, and many of the families we work with are struggling more than ever. But FamilyDay is one day we can all get together, celebrate all family forms and simply have fun.
