We are delighted to welcome new author Gethan Dick into EPIC for the first of our 2026 Éire to Everywhere event, which takes places on the 20th January.
Gethan will discuss the inspirations and motivations behind writing this first novel, and how she segued into being an author after initially pursuing a career in film.
The talk will conclude with a Q&A session, inviting the audience to engage with Gethan directly and dig deeper into the story’s themes.
Copies of Water in the Desert, Fire in the Night will be available to purchase on the night, with a book signing to follow.
About the Book
Here is a novel about hope, wolves, companionship and resilience, hunger and gold. It’s about an underachieving millennial, a retired midwife and a charismatic Dubliner who set out from London after the end of the world to cycle to a sanctuary in the southern Alps.
It’s about packing light and choosing the right companions and trousers: what’s worth knowing, what’s worth living, and holding on to your sense of humour in moments big and small.
It’s about the fact that the world ends all the time. It’s about what to do next.
About the Author
Gethan Dick was born in Belfast but raised in the West of Ireland. She now lives in Marseilles with her husband and two children. Her first novel Water in the Desert, Fire in the Night has been published by Dublin-based house Tramp Press.
