This creative and fun drop-in workshop is ideal for families, that takes place on Saturday February 1st from 2-4pm. Open for all to enjoy, making and decorating Chinese lanterns is a wonderful way to enjoy the Dublin Chinese New Year 2020.
Made of paper, the lantern, is the main focus of attention of the celebration as it symbolizes the wish for a bright future. In addition, the Chinese believe that while red is a symbol of happiness, gold is a symbol of wealth. Originally, Chinese people hung lanterns in front of their doors to drive away evil spirits. As to today, the lantern has become a symbol of traditional Chinese culture, playing an important role in celebrations and ceremonies, and remain popular.
