Following the release of her acclaimed debut album, Folk Songs for Mama & Papa, Irish artist Ae Mak (Aoife McCann) joins forces with Crash Ensemble for a special one-night-only performance at the National Concert Hall.
After years of creating genre-defying, otherworldly pop and delivering visceral, kinetic performances across Europe and the UK, Folk Songs for Mama & Papa marks a quiet yet profound artistic shift. Influenced by artists such as Björk, Judee Sill, Aldous Harding and Paul Simon, the album moves away from character and performance towards something deeply personal and essential. Rooted in voice, breath and emotional resonance, it is a collection of spiritual, cosmically inspired folk songs that places vulnerability and human connection at its core.
This special performance centres on songs from the album, newly arranged for Crash by Barry O’Halpin. Together, Ae Mak and Crash bring these intimate works to life on stage, expanding the album’s rich harmonies and emotional depth through the ensemble’s distinctive sound world.
Written during a period of heartbreak, self-questioning and transformation, the songs are ultimately filled with hope, humour, and devotion. They explore illumination, creation and the quiet, ecstatic belief that we are not alone – that we are spiritual beings having a human experience… “we came from the stars, you see”.
