What’s On in Dublin This Weekend (January 18-20)
DublinTown features on Dublin City FM every Friday morning to talk about some of the many things happening in the city. If you missed us on air, don’t worry as below are a number of things you can do this weekend in the city.
Centenary Commemoration of First Meeting Dáil Éireann, Mansion House – Friday, Saturday & Sunday
To commemorate the first meeting of Dáil Éireann, which was held on 21st January, 1919, the Mansion House is holding an open exhibition where you can discover memorabilia and photographs in the exhibition, visit the Round Room, plus receive a free souvenir pin to commemorate the centenary. There will be storyboards throughout Mansion House, while their six historians in residency are on hand to answer any of your questions.
This exhibition is ideal for history buffs, tourist, locals or anyone who wishes to learn more about Ireland’s first meeting of government. DublinTown’s very own Gerry Farrell spoke with Lord Mayor of Dublin Nial Ring to discuss the historical event happening at Mansion House in an exclusive interview.
Lord Mayor of Dublin is inviting the public to visit this weekend. Much of the memorabilia was curated by Derek Jones of GPO Witness History, another wonderful museum and historical journey to visit on Northside of city.
What’s more special about this commemoration, the Lord Mayor’s Coach will also be on display on Saturday 19th in forecourt of Mansion House. This beautiful coach dates back to 1791 – a centrepiece to commemorate Irish history and garner more attention to visit the exhibition.
Neighbouring Restaurants & Cafés to Visit Before/After:
Café en Seine, The Greenhouse, Marco Pierre White and Tang, which are all on Dawson Street; Hatch & Sons and Peploe’s on Stephen’s Green; or Isabelle’s and Xi’an Street Food which are both new additions to South Anne Street.
