Pat Dowling, The Stag’s Head
DublinTown had the pleasure of sitting down with Pat Dowling of The Stag’s Head, to hear about what his ideal day in Dublin would be!
Living in Drimnagh and being a dad of three amazing kids, I make sure I can spend a lot of time with my family. My perfect morning would start with a visit to the Memorial Garden or Phoenix Park, to enjoy the amazing scenery and to feed the ducks. I like seeing the older side of Dublin’s architecture and the city’s history through the likes of Christ Church Cathedral and the old City Walls.
When it comes to food, Dame District and Creative Quarter have a great variety of spots with Fade St Social, Fallon & Byrne, Pitchet and Rustic Stone, among others. The variety brings new people into the area, who can rediscover its culture and richness.
For a pint, my favourite pubs would be Mulligan’s, The Long Hall, Kehoe’s Pub or McDaids, they’re not concerned with trends; they are the trend – with a great pint and service. The Stag’s Head was one of my favourite pubs, even before I started working here. We stick to the tradition but we are not afraid of introducing new ideas. In our diary you will find The Comedy Crunch, Stag’s Head Raw, Dublin Ukulele Club and Brownbread Mixtape – a good variety.
We also like to help artists and to get involved in various projects, giving back to the community, that’s why we’re proud to be a venue for youbloom. We’ll be hosting about 15 acts, all very different genres and we’re really looking forward to it. We believe in helping the next generation, it’s good for karma, and youbloom is a great idea – it takes in the world and that’s Dublin.
