A Big Win for Aidan Darcy of Sugar Cubed
Written by Aidan Darcy is an up and coming hairstylist who is currently working in the extremely prestigious and ultra cool Sugar Cubed (which is the younger sister salon of Brown Sugar). We drop in to have a chat with Aidan after we learn of his huge achievement, he has just recently been selected to be part of the TIGI Inspirational Youth Team 2017!
Aidan is humble yet driven and he knows exactly where he is going in life, he has already won ‘L’Oreal Young Colourist 2014’ and was a ‘Colour Trophy Finalist’ in 2017. We get down to business and Aidan fills us in on what exactly his new achievement means. We learn that there are thousands of entrants across the UK and Ireland every year to be chosen as part of the TIGI Inspirational Youth team, and Aidan has been selected as one of 10 hairstylist under the age of 25 to be apart of this team.
To apply he had to submit a video about his chosen look which had to involve colour and cut techniques, Aidan took his inspiration from a Mulberry campaign and he ended up with a raspberry bleed coloring with a curly bob cut. Aidan explains that he was confident with his creation but that the competition is so fierce that he was not sure if he would make the cut.
What next? Aidan will spend the next few months travelling over and back to TIGI headquarters in London where he will take part in intensive masterclasses which will finally result in a huge reveal show in November in front of hundreds of people. During the next few months Aidan’s raw talents will be nurtured and excelled to the next level under the direction of powerhouse Anthony Moscolo, Creative Director of TIGI.
Recently Moscolo spoke about the TIGI Inspirational Youth Team: “When I began my career, my brothers gave me the opportunity, support and inspiration to experience photo shoots and shows, which gave me invaluable skills. In turn, I want to provide today’s young hairdressers the chance to grow their talent. They are the future of our industry.”
Since its launch 9 years ago, TIGI Inspirational Youth has established itself as one of the most respected and successful youth-training programmes in hairdressing. During a 6-day ‘boot- camp’ the TIGI Inspirational Youth Team members expand their technical and creative knowledge, enhance their presentation skills, learn about fashion and photographic work and develop as individuals and ultimately as a strong team. The original UK concept has now expanded into a global offering. Last year participants in Germany and the USA took the exciting, life-changing journey that is TIGI Inspirational Youth, competing to be the best of their generation.
Aidan reveals that he will be looking for a very unique model for his November show, he doesn’t usually go for the typical model look, he wants his girl to represent something a little quirkier and TIGI will hold a model casting for the Youth Team to find their perfect muse. As of now he has no idea what look he will be going for but he is very confident that his master classes with Anthony Moscolo will lend him an abundance of inspiration.
