My Perfect Day in Dublin
Darragh Buckley, FX Buckley’s
We’re a traditional family butchers, we’ve been in operation since 1931. It was my grandfather who opened the first shop and since then we’ve been looking after customers for nearly 85 years, and we still do the best steak in Dublin. I live on Bath Avenue so I like getting up early and going for a run on Sandymount strand, where I’ll usually go down to the end of the beach and back. Then I might go down to Juniors for brunch. It’s run by two young guys and there’s a great buzz and atmosphere in the place. After that I might head back into town myself and keep an eye on the business, we have one shop in Rathfarnam and another one on Talbot Street. If I’m going for food I usually go up to The Bull and Castle in Christchurch where there’s a really nice beer hall upstairs. I enjoy tasting different beers, and they’d be the home for craft beers like the Galway Hooker. Then I might finish off the night in Slattery’s. If there’s any internationals on they’ll be planning in advance, they’ll have all the flags out and there’s always a great atmosphere. They look after the local people too and it’s the kind of place where they know everyone’s name.
