The Gotham Cafe
- Thu, 18 Feb 2016
The Gotham Cafe has been on South Anne Street since 1993 and is Dublin’s connection to New York City. If you want great pizza and good quality food in a relaxed dining atmosphere at such an affordable price then Gotham is the place to be.
The base of the menu is the fabulous quality pizza. They make the pizzas in their Woodstone oven to give a classic New York thin base. Imported from Washington, Gotham Cafe was one of the first to use the woodstone fire oven. Pizzas are in and out of the oven in 6 minutes creating a unique fast service. It’s perfect if you have an hour for lunch and want to grab a quick bite or if you’re having an early dinner before catching a play.
All Gotham’s pizzas are named after areas around New York such as bestseller the ‘Chinatown’, the ‘Soho’, the ‘Madison Avenue’ and the ‘Gramercy’. This is such a cool and distinctive way to promote their food. It is a great talking point for customers especially American tourists who get a taste of home. You can also choose to create your own pizza with various toppings. There are other options on the menu if you’re not just looking for pizza. There are beautiful dishes like penne pasta with pork sausage, Morrocan homemade lamb burger and Thai curry. You’ll feel like you’re dining in New York but at such a reasonable price.
The Gotham Cafe is a family friendly restaurant offering a great kids menu. You can come relax and chill out with the family in a casual friendly setting. Not forgetting about desserts the Gotham Cheesecake is an absolute favourite borrowed from the co-owner, David’s mother’s recipe. This New York style cheesecake is made with Philadelphia cream cheese and a hint of lemon and vanilla. Definitely a must try!
The restaurant has that New York vibe with a wall set out for covers of Rolling Stone magazine and different photographs of New York city monuments. Gotham Cafe has their loyal regulars but it is also a great hit with American tourists as it doesn’t feel too different from home. It’s like a safety net when they first arrive to Dublin city.
They offer a great lunch menu and also a lunch deal of two course for just €17. Brunch is such a popular meal on the weekends and Gotham Cafe do a brilliant menu served on Sundays from 11.30am to 4.00pm which includes poached eggs with smoked salmon, avocado toast with eggs, pancakes and bagels.
