Dive into Deliciousness: Bewley’s Afternoon Tea Delight!

Bewley’s have launched an Afternoon Tea Experience, celebrating almost a century of in-house baking at the iconic Grafton Street Café.

Created to begin a new chapter in the Café’s history, the indulgent treat is freshly-baked and handcrafted in its state-of-the-art bakery. Passionate about chocolate and the science behind it, Head Pastry Chef Alessia Cimmino has created an amazing array of top tier desserts, each with a distinctive Bewley’s twist.

The Chocolate Universe is a spongeless sphere filled with dark chocolate (Valrhona Kalingo 65%), and is topped with a pecan praline ganache.

The baked custard tart features a Valrhona blond Dulcey chocolate namelaka, for a delicious melt in the mouth texture. The Bailey’s Crème Brûlée is a free-standing version, balanced with a vibrant mandarin fluid gel.

The dessert tier is topped off with a raspberry and cinnamon financier, with a berry compote and a crunchy almond glaze.

We have been crafting amazing breads and desserts in this building since 1927, and we are celebrating that legacy by launching afternoon tea for the first time,” said Managing Director Cól Campbell.

This is afternoon tea with a difference as it is almost entirely made from scratch in the Café’s in-house bakery, even down to the compotes.

We are so proud of our heritage as craft bakers and confectioners – you just have to taste our signature homemade mini-scones, our Chocolate Universe, and our bread selection to experience it.”

Head Chef Alex Saric and his team have designed a superb savoury selection on freshly baked granary bread, brioche, mini-croissants and ciabattas.

These are filled with interesting twists on the Afternoon Tea classics. The egg mayo sandwich, for example, uses Kewpie mayonnaise from Japan seasoned with judicious warm spices.

The menu comes with a wide selection of Bewley’s master-blended loose leaf teas and refreshing herbal tisanes.

Prosecco, cava and champagne options are also available to add sparkle to the proceedings.

Bewley’s Afternoon Tea is priced at €49 per person and is available from Thursdays to Sundays. Booking is essential at Bewleys.com or on Open Table.

The Café also recently hosted its first wedding, and is now taking bookings for private events, hosted on the first floor.
