Speaking ahead of the launch of Dublin at Christmas, Ardmhéara Mícheál Mac Donncha said:
Dublin city is a truly magical place at Christmas. This year to officially start the festive season, Dublin City Council in partnership with DublinTown is delighted to bring you a stunning cross city Procession of Light that will finish on O’Connell Street where I will turn on the lights of the Christmas tree. As part of the festive programme of events, Dublin City Council will also host a spectacular free family Christmas event called, Smithfield Lights, on Sunday, 26th November. I invite visitors and Dubliners to come into the city to watch both of these events and enjoy the magical atmosphere. Also, come along to the Mansion House on the 11th December, when I will open the traditional Live Animal Crib to the public. Táim ag súil le Féile Nollag iontach don gCathair i mbliana.
Richard Guiney, CEO of DublinTown, said:
This Christmas season DublinTown will continue the tradition of erecting stunning Christmas lights on 30 streets in the city centre. DublinTown, on behalf of the businesses in the city centre purchase and erect the Christmas lights. Over the past number of years, we have seen a huge surge in the popularity of the lighting ceremonies with people of all ages. This year we are delighted to work with our partners in Dublin City Council to create something very different, one cross-city event . We are inviting visitors to come into the city to watch one of two processions as they journey through the many shopping streets of Dublin, switching on the lights along the way.
