Guide to making a Christmas Care Package for Friends & Family abroad
Social media has helped us to stay in touch with family at home and abroad. But there is still nothing like getting a mighty big care package delivered to your door with all your favourite things in it. With this in mind, we know there are people out there wondering what they can put together to make the Ultimate Christmas Care Package for loved ones living away from home.
In a bid to bring some Christmas cheer to those living abroad, #DublinatChristmas has come up with a few suggestions that might just get you person of the year!
Go full on Irish in Carrolls Irish Gifts:
Who doesn’t love little things all green and Irishy? So why not add some Irish cheer in your care package. Carrolls Irish Gifts have a great Christmas range including Guinness Baubles, Leprechaun hanging decorations, an Irish blessing and yummy fudge. There is definitely something here for your ex-pat to love at Christmas.
Tayto Pop-Up at Arnotts:
Food Glorious Food! When it comes to the Irish living abroad, there is nothing like getting nostalgic food brands that take you back. Tayto crisps are just one of them. This Christmas Mr Tayto himself opened the Tayto Christmas window in Arnotts which has the original Tayto Crisp-mas Sandwich in 4 different flavours. There is also the Crisp-mas Shop with Tayto merchandise that offers a personalised gift service.
A little Tea-ste of home at Dunnes Stores:
While we are on the subject of sending food… don’t forget, tea always goes down a treat with the Irish abroad. Whether they are a Lyons lover or a Barry’s believer, tea bags are a must for any packages being made up. Easy to find in your local convenience store like Spar or bigger stores like Dunnes Stores to pick up your supply.
Cozy Irish Jumpers in Jervis Shopping Centre:
No matter what country you may live in, a nice woolly jumper is a must for cosy nights, even if it’s 30 degrees in the Outback! The Aran jumper is definitely a firm favourite so add it to your list. Donegal Shop in Stephen’s Green SC or Carraig Donn in Jervis Shopping Centre.
Slip into something comfy:
Novelty Christmas slippers and pyjamas is an easy one to make someone’s Christmas a happy one. Penney’s on O’Connell St or M&S on Grafton Street are bound to have over-the-top Christmas pyjamas or a more subtle nightwear attire for those who love to wear their cosies on Christmas day.
Write a love letter:
If you do have someone living abroad, it’s great to be able to pick up the phone and talk to them, but it’s not as personal as getting post. Why not add in a stationary kit to your package so they can stay in touch with you via snail mail. Tigers in St Stephen’s Green or Eason’s on O’Connell St are just two of a number of stationary stores you can get quirky stationary from.
Now that you have your package filled to the brim, we must leave you with some friendly advice. If you want your present to arrive in time for Christmas THIS YEAR, we would advise that you get sending it now! Depending on where your package is going it could take a few weeks so be wise and send sooner rather than later!
