With Christmas fast approaching, three delightful reveries of make-believe, wishful thinking and magic led by the ‘authoritative and masterful’ (BachtrackPatrik Ringborg.

Sofia Gubaidulina’s Fairytale Poem gives life to a piece of chalk whose dreams are finally realised in colourfully eventful music lit up by affecting melodies.

Blending technical brilliance with intoxicating warmth and energy, Michelle Cann is the soloist in Florence Price’s virtuosic and colourful Piano Concerto in One Movement which collides Lisztian dazzle, late-Romantic fervour and African-American feeling .

Boasting one glorious tune after another, Tchaikovsky’s seasonal favourite, The Nutcracker, includes exotic dances from Russia and China, the delicious ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy’ and the sublimely lyrical ‘Waltz of the Flowers’.
