The Capel Street Series #3 – WM Trimmings
In this week’s installment of the Capel Street Series we are looking at WM Trimmings located at 137 Capel Street.
Orginally established 1888, the fourth generation, family-run Woollen Mills was closed in June of 2012. Just a few months later the dedicated former staff reopened both the wholesale and retail operations. WM Trimmings was opened on Capel Street in August 2012 with the loyal support of their former customers.
Aoife and Suzanne are the friendly faces who will greet you with a warm welcome in the retail shop, and they truly know their threads and trimmings. They are not, as a lot of people assume, “just a wool shop”. With over 150 years experience between the team, a personal, friendly approach with customers, and a generous stock of mainly fabrics, buttons, haberdashery, crafts and wool; the shop has an indisputable reputation. They are suppliers to The Abbey, and Gate Theatre, and a firm favourite of personal fashion and costume designers. Many of these customers avail of a loyalty discount; this is particularly favourable to students from NCAD and Griffith College. They receive many calls and queries about Aran wool, and will order and post it from their wholesale. Also if you’re a novice who just needs to replace a button or zip, this is the place!

Capel Street is the perfect home for WM Trimmings as “the women come in to do business while their men go over to all the hardware shops – match made in heaven”! It’s no secret that Capel Street is dotted with many speciality stores, Duffy Antiques, Mullen’s Sports, and AJ Furniture all have their home here, so if you’re after that “something in particular” it’s the place to come to. Aoife has noticed a recent influx of young people flocking to the busy street. “They’re mostly going for lunch in Brother Hubbard, or shopping for cute knick-knacks and trinkets in Rua” Aoife herself is so often run off her feet in the shop she doesn’t get a chance to leave for lunch, but when she does, she’ll head to Slattery’s for a cosy pub grub treat.
WM Trimmings has now extended its 6pm Monday-Saturday closing time until 7 on Thursdays, pop in and say hello!
