The Treeline Project is an arts initiative created by Oonagh Young and Mary Cremin that focuses on urban sustainability whilst driving community engagement and social inclusion in the Monto area of north inner city Dublin.
The aim of the Treeline Project is to create a green corridor on Dublin’s James Joyce Street by planting a variety of trees mentioned in 'Ulysses'. In order to foster local social participation we are organising activities that will take place in a temporary pavilion designed by Donal Cofer Architects at Liberty Park on Foley St during the summer of 2017. This will be programmed by the artistic directors and will be used by artists, local organisations and local community groups. A single line green LED screen will be installed in the local area which will run the entire book of ‘Ulysses’ on a loop for the duration of the project. By linking the project to James Joyce, who located an episode of ‘Ulysses’ in this area, we are highlighting this rich cultural heritage by bringing a positive narrative to the neglected north inner city.
