Dublin’s most talented dancers have earned their place among the elite cast of the Irish National Youth Ballet’s spring production of Coppélia. A total of 23 exceptional dancers from Dublin have been chosen to join over 40 performers in bringing this enchanting ballet to life at the Samuel Beckett Theatre, Trinity College Dublin, for six magical performances from May 17th to 19th.
Selected from a pool of 145 auditionees from across the island of Ireland, these young dancers represent the pinnacle of ballet talent in the country. Their dedication to their craft is evident in the rigorous training and strict audition process they undergo to become part of the INYB company.
Coppélia, with its captivating themes of love, enchantment, and magic, promises to transport audiences to a quaint European village where Swanhilda and Franz embark on a journey to unravel the mystery of Coppélia, a lifelike doll, in a tale filled with intrigue and deception.
Announcing the Spring programme, Artistic Director Lindsay Ashe-Browne shares her enthusiasm for the upcoming performances, stating, “We are thrilled to bring the timeless tale of Coppélia to the heart of Dublin city this spring. This production not only delights ballet enthusiasts but also welcomes newcomers with its engaging storyline and elegant choreography.”
“To dance with the Irish National Youth Ballet, one must possess exceptional dancing talent, akin to elite athletes. The audition process is strict and competitive, with our dancers undergoing rigorous training to reach such a high performance level.” The dancers train with a variety of local Dublin dance schools including Aine McNamara, Brocklebank Academy of Dance, Clare Connolly, Debbie Allen, Emma & Sara Gannon, Karen O’Hara, Karen Williams, Nicola Farcas, Paula Kearns, Rachel Good, Sara Chester, Sinead Keaskin, and Westside Performing Arts.
